Specific Regional Rules

Students in grades nine through twelve may work individually or in groups of no more than three people. Each group must designate a captain as spokesperson for the project. No more than three projects from each of the nine categories can be registered by each school.

Narrative Description/Project Summary

Each student must submit a narrative description/project summary with each entry into the 2010 Computer Fair. The PA Computer Fair Participation Packet includes the document with instructions on what information to include. The summary will be the student's opportunity to provide judges with any background information they wish the judges to be aware of during the judging process. The summary will be placed with each project for the judges to read as they evaluate the student's entry. This summary should not be more than one page and must include the following items:

Copyright Requirements

The PA Computer Fair Participation Packet includes a participation agreement that must be signed by all participating students on a project and their teacher sponsor. Part of the agreement outlines copyright expectations, as well as other project requirements.

Please note:  Projects using music as part of their project, must use original scores or obtain copyright permission to use the music.

Awards

  • First, second and third place winners will receive individual medallions.
  • All participants will receive a participation award.
  • All first place winners will advance to the State Competition (State Competition date TBD)

Important Dates

  • February 22, 2010 - All registrations due for the regional fair.
  • March 1, 2010 - All projects that need to be loaded on IU equipment must be received by the IU.
  • March 8, 2010 - Regional competition at Penn State Altoona

Judging Criteria

  • Preliminary judging: a minimum of two judges will view the project to determine a group of finalists.
  • Final judging: All judges will view each of the finalists projects and may require the students to answer questions.
