Schedule of Events:


  • Date: Monday, March 5, 2018
  • Location: Luzerne Intermediate Unit 18

  • Time: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • Projects will be dropped off at the LIU Office Building, 368 Tioga Avenue, Kingston by March 5, 2018. The LIU staff will set up the projects (graphic design with board) and prepare them for display and judging. All logos, movies, animation and web pages are to be handed in on CD's, DVD's, or flash drives. Display boards will not be accepted this year outside of Graphic Design. We are not expecting the need for computers to be brought to the IU, however we can accommodate if the project requires it. Programming projects may require specific devices, please plan to bring everything needed to run programming projects, including hardware.
  • Narratives, flow charts and sign off sheets are required to be submitted for all projects. Please review specific rubrics to make sure all requirements are met.
  • After last year's success we are suggesting that all projects have a binder, paper or electronic, with all the documents required for judging and the digital files on a CD. The binders make judging easier and keep all the documentation and media together through the process.
  • Drop off hours on the 5th will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and we are willing to assist advisors in picking up projects if we can schedule it before the 5th. Early submissions will be accepted the week of February 26th during normal business hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Due to these changes we feel the need to limit entries to two entries per category, per school building.


  • Dates: March 6-9, 2018
  • The 8th is reserved for judging. All projects will be reviewed by a team of judges over the day and scored as per the fair's revised rubrics. We will reach out to the advisor with questions or concerns if they arise in judging, so having complete contact information is imperative. If we reach out and get no response in a timely manner we will disqualify the project and move forward with judging. This occurred on one occasion because we didn't have good contact information and couldn't reach the advisor through email or the school office phone.

  • An Awards Luncheon will be on March 9th.  You are invited to attend the luncheon at the LIU Building or you may join us through video conferencing on this day. We are planning the details, but considering a format with a pizza lunch at 11 a.m. and awards directly after. Since we will have digital files, we may reintroduce viewer's choice in some categories depending on the number of entries. All attendees coming to the IU for awards will need to register online with this Google Form.

Specific Regional Rules

  • Entries will be limited to two projects per category per high school.
  • Students may work individually or in groups. Groups will be limited to three students.
  • Please note some categories have new themes and rules for 2018. Make sure you visit the websites and review the rules and rubrics. Also please ensure all students receive the rules and the rubric as they prepare for the competition.
  • It is highly suggested that every student participating read the scoring rubric for their category. This will help student create projects that align with the goals and intent of the competition.
  • All entries must designate a faculty member or sponsor. All communication will go through that person. The faculty member or sponsor must accompany students to the regional and state competitions. All entries must register online and be submitted by the faculty member.
  • There will be no entrance fee charged to either the school district or student to participate.

Narrative Description/Project Summary

Each student must submit a narrative description/project summary with each entry into the 2018 Computer Fair. The PA Computer Fair Participation Packet includes the document with instructions on what information to include. The summary will be the student's opportunity to provide judges with any background information they wish the judges to be aware of during the judging process. The summary will be placed with each project for the judges to read as they evaluate the student's entry. This summary should not be more than one page and must include the following items:

  • The project's objectives, vision and/or overall purpose.
  • A list of the software applications used to create the project. List any additional equipment (scanners, digital camera, etc.)
  • List the approximate time spent creating the project and name all contributors to the project.
  • If design elements/graphics are included, please describe where the elements originated. Please include citations of all design elements that are not original.
  • A brief description of the process used to create the project.
  • Any additional information the student feels the judges should be aware of while evaluating the project.

Copyright Requirements

The PA Computer Fair Participation Packet includes a participation agreement that must be signed by all participating students on a project and their teacher sponsor. Part of the agreement outlines copyright expectations, as well as other project requirements. Click here to download.

Judging Criteria

  • Preliminary judging: a minimum of two judges will view the project to determine a group of finalist/s.
  • Final judging: All judges will view each of the finalist's projects.
  • Judges' decisions are final.
